Traveling to Santorini on a cruise ship can be challenging, but a well-curated plan will ensure you see all the best spots. To enhance your experience as a cruise passenger on the island, our platform features a wide variety of boat tours, cruises, and land tours tailored to suit your time limitations and allowing for hassle-free access to the island’s natural wonders. Reserving the tour of your preference in advance will also ensure that everything will be arranged for you, so there will be no need to stress about logistics or missing out on important attractions. Useful information about how to navigate Santorini if you arrive by cruise ship is provided below:

Cruise ships arrive in Santorini at two ports: Athinios Port and the Old Port of Fira, and in order to get to the shore, passengers must take a tender boat. While those on bus tours with reservations through the cruise line are dropped off at Athinios, the majority of passengers disembark at the Old Port. However, all cruise ships leave from the Old Port, so even those on scheduled tours have to go back there to board, regardless of where they arrive. Should you wish to organize a tour, the majority begin or have a meeting point in Fira, while the only way to get to Fira from the Old Port is by cable car, which takes roughly three minutes. However, the entire procedure, including tendering, may take 1,5 to 2 hours, particularly when there are several cruise arrivals. What is more, since the last tender typically leaves 1 hour before the cruise departs, it is advised to return to Fira 2 hours prior to your cruise ship's departure to guarantee a timely arrival at the Old Port. Alternative ways to get from the port to Fira and back include riding a donkey or ascending 587 steps.

If you wish to avoid the ride on the cable car, there are a number of tour options that begin and end at the Old Port. There are some Volcano Tours that leave and return there directly, while Private Cruises can be arranged with a pickup and/or drop-off there, though this may shorten the cruises’ duration somewhat, as their departure point is usually another port. Some Shared Cruises might also work with your schedule, which we can suggest should you wish to get in touch with us. However, if you would rather explore the island’s landmarks on a Private land tour, you must first ride the cable car to Fira, while the tours’ starting and ending times can be customized in most of them, based on your cruise ship’s arrival and departure times.

What Tour Should I Book as a Cruise Passenger?

GET VALUABLE SUGGESTIONS FROM LOCAL EXPERTS What Tour Should I Book as a Cruise Passenger?

Visiting Santorini on a cruise ship can feel rushed, but the right planning can ease that pressure. For those seeking a satisfying experience, boat or land tours are available, which can make cruise ship visitors feel comfortable in their schedule without worries about making it back on time. Most tours depart from Fira, where one has to take a cable car to get from the Old Port, where the cruises dock, walk 587 steps, or ride a donkey from the same path. Some tours, however, depart directly from the Old Port, eliminating the need for the cable car. Below are some tour options that can help you get the most out of your Santorini stop:

Volcano Tours: These tours are ideal for cruise visitors wanting to see Santorini's famous volcanic landscape without riding the cable car, as they depart from and return to the Old Port. During the tours, you may climb to the crater of the Volcano and swim in the Hot Springs, while there are some tour options that take visitors to the beautiful island of Therasia, which is near Santorini.

• Private Cruises: Perfect for cruise ship passengers, as some operators do offer a pickup and drop-off directly at the Old Port. Private cruises also offer the opportunity to visit the most famous places on the island, with all meals and premium beverages provided.

*There are some Shared cruises that might fit into your schedule. Get in touch with us to provide you with the best recommendations!*

• Private Land Tours: If you wish to see Santorini on land rather than sea, then private land tours are the best choice, as they offer an entirely private excursion to visit key sites of interest on the island. All land tours start in Fira, so cruise ship passengers must ascend the cliff in the cable car to reach the meeting point.

Choosing the right tour will ensure that you enjoy the best of Santorini and have a wonderful cruise port stop!

Together we create happy lifetime experiences!
