Megalochori, located on the southwest part of Santorini, is a picturesque, full-of-life village with friendly, lively residents. The central square is the heart of the village where locals gather in traditional cafes to unwind and have fun, creating a warm atmosphere. It is definitely worth spending an evening here in order to be part of this sentiment and taste local dishes under the natural shade the trees provide. You can find traditional taverns, cafes and shops in other corners of the village as well.
The location of the village offers sublime views on the breathtaking caldera on the west and on a vast valley on the east, full of vineyards that Megalochori is renowned for. In addition, Megalochori provides easy access to the extraordinary beaches that lie to the south, like Vlychada and Eros.

In order to reach the place from the port, take the bus from the Port to Fira and get off outside Pyrgos village. Then, take another bus with direction to Perissa/Perivolos and make a stop at Megalochori village.
I had the absolute worst experience staying at Artemis Suites in Santorini, and I strongly urge anyone considering this place to think twice. Upon arrival, we were informed that the room wasn’t ready—completely unprofessional and unacceptable for a paying guest. What followed was even more disgraceful. We were forced to wait over two hours in a room with no power or lighting, making it impossible to settle in comfortably. To add insult to injury, the room reeked of a disgusting, dirty, moldy smell, which made it unbearable to stay in. This was not just a minor inconvenience—it was a complete disaster. The lack of cleanliness, poor preparation, and unprofessionalism are unforgivable, especially considering the premium prices charged for this so-called “luxury” accommodation. The management clearly has no regard for their guests’ comfort or satisfaction, as they made zero effort to rectify the situation or ensure we were taken care of. I am demanding a full refund, as I refuse to pay for this nightmare of an experience. I will also be pursuing legal action if this matter is not resolved promptly. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs—there are far better hotels in Santorini that actually value their guests and deliver what they promise. This place should be ashamed of itself, and I hope others don’t fall into the trap of booking here. Save your money, your time, and your sanity—Artemis Suites is a disgrace to the hospitality industry.
We had a lovely stay at Artemis. The views are breathtaking, the service was above and beyond, and the rooms were very clean. The location was quiet and close enough to all the major areas. The breakfast choices were phenomenal. The options for transport to the airport and throughout the towns were on time and easy to use. The hosts, Ana and Elvis were top notch service providers who took great care of us and a special interest in making the best experience possible for us in Santorini. We hope to visit again someday!
Elvis, Spiro, and Ana were so fantastic and helpful. I enjoyed my stay here so much. Anything we wanted to know, they had recommendations. Anywhere we wanted to go, they gave directions. We spent 3 nights and honestly I could have stayed for forever. Such a good location close to the red beach (bring good shoes as it's a bit of a hike down to the water) and the heart of santorini. Incredible views. Pool was fantastic. One note, if you're vegan or don't eat meat the selections are super limited for breakfast. No coffee in the room but it's available with breakfast.
Excellent location in Megalochori. The view to the caldera at sunset is magnificent. We had the family room, which was spacious, but an odd smell came from the bathroom drain. Centrally located in Santorini. Breakfast buffet was good and enough to start the day.
