Pyrgos is the highest village of Santorini, providing great panoramic views of both sides of the island and is 8 km from Fira, the capital of the island.
Pyrgos is surrounded by blue-domed churches and vineyards. Here and there you will meet small galleries and shops tucked into hidden corners, as you get around the successive, uphill, and downhill alleys.
At the bottom of the village, there are some tourist shops, mini markets, welcoming restaurants, and taverns with delicious food and coffee shops, most of them around the main, round square.

In order to reach the place from the airport, take the bus from the Airport to Fira and then change to another bus with direction to Perissa/Perivolos. There is a bus stop in Pyrgos village.

In order to reach the place from the port, take the bus from the Port to Fira and get off outside Pyrgos village.
If you are not hung up on needing to stay at an overpriced hotel directly overlooking the Caldera in the popular areas of Fira, Imerovigli or Oia, then Island View Apartments is a very reasonable alternative. You get a nice view of the sunset through the large patio doors from your sofa or you can go up on the private rooftop terrace. The view is minimally obstructed by an electrical pole and line across the street. The apartment is very spacious for a family of four with a huge kitchen and eating area. It is very clean also. The host was very welcoming and provided wonderful baked goods for us to eat on two occasions. He was very responsive to email/Whatsapp. The apartment is above a local toystore outside of Fira and close to Pyrgos and feels a bit weird at first upon arrival. I would suggest renting a car to get around. There is a (unmarked) bus stop right outside that will take you to Fira but we did not want to be at the mercy of the bus schedule to get around. Overall, I think Island View Apartments represents great value in an otherwise expensive Santorini vacation spot.
Very good local apartment and interesting place for holidays. Would recommend to everyone.. maybe coming next time.
