Update: April 15, 2025
Cruise ships have resumed operations, with several docking in March and April, signaling a return to normal tourism. The tourist season is progressing smoothly, hotels are open, and bookings are increasing. While the seismic events haven't been entirely forgotten, the island has largely returned to normalcy, with locals and visitors focusing on the ongoing season.
Generally, tourism businesses in Santorini expect fewer visitors compared to previous years. However, this presents a great opportunity for those who wish to explore the island with more comfort and fewer crowds!

Update: March 27, 2025
April seems to be off to a strong start, as there is an observed increase in accommodation bookings and business owners active in the Tourism and Food Service sectors appear optimistic.
At the same time, technical work is being carried out at the ports of Fira (Old Port) and Oia (Ammoudi Port) to enhance visitor safety. These ports will remain closed or with controlled access until May. Cruise ships will approach Athinios Port, and leisure cruises (catamaran tours) will depart from Vlychada Port. We will provide updates on this matter as soon as announcements are made by the relevant Greek authorities.

According to travel agents, there have not been many booking cancellations.

"Seismicity is showing a gradual decrease. Earthquakes are occurring in the same focal area, mainly southwest of Anydros, without any new microseismic surge being observed since February 15th," announced the Interdisciplinary Committee for Risk and Crisis Management. Kostas Papazachos, professor of seismology, stated, "Things are looking better day by day."

Update: Feb 18, 2025
An evacuation port will soon be set up on the island of Santorini to facilitate the safe escape of people in case a bigger quake hits the popular tourist destination, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias announced on Monday.

Update: Feb 17, 2025
More and more Greek scientists who are monitoring the phenomenon of multiple seismic vibrations are converging on the fact that it is probably volcanic activity, not of Palea Kameni or Kolumbo, but perhaps a new volcano is being created near the islet of Anydros, between Santorini and Amorgos. Moreover, in the last week, seismic vibrations have decreased in intensity and frequency.

Santorini has recently experienced a series of minor to moderate earthquakes, the most powerful of which measured approx. 5.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in the sea between the islands of Amorgos and Santorini.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or significant damage to property. The island remains safe for residents and visitors.

As a precautionary measure, local authorities have restricted access to certain coastal areas due to the risk of landslides. Experts are closely monitoring the situation and urge everyone to stay informed and follow safety guidelines.

In addition, Red Beach, one of Santorini’s most famous spots, is located near Akrotiri and the archaeological site, attracting millions of visitors each year. We would like to clarify that the rockfalls in the area occurred approximately a few years ago and are not related to the recent seismic activity in the Cyclades. Access to the beach remains unchanged, either by boat or via a small hiking footpath, which has been the only way to reach Red Beach for years and has not been affected by the earthquakes.
