This small bookstore, has managed to hold onto its distinct character while providing a novel environment for reading literature while taking in the beauty of the island.
A group of friends from all over the world who loved adventure and reading founded Atlantis Books in 2004. This bookstore, previously located in Oia, is now in Firostefani (Google Maps), rejuvenating the Nomikos Cultural Center and making access easier for guests.
Atlantis Books is like entering a bibliophile's dream. Books in English, Greek, French, Spanish, Italian, and German line the shelves. The focus on books about Greece means the collection includes classic & modern fiction, poetry, philosophy, and art publications. Rare editions and selected treasures make browsing serendipity.
Equally appealing to the collection is how this bookstore is designed internally. There is an arresting feel brought about by handmade signage, colorful artwork, and solid wooden shelves. If one were to glance at their ceilings or upper walls, motivational literary quotations come alive.
Atlantis Books is something way beyond a simple store; it's a cultural phenomenon. Over time, events that have been held by this bookstore range from a literary festival, movie night screening, & even poetry reading. Such events foster good relations between locals and visitors and pay tribute to art at the same time. It's also a business hub for artistic inspirations because its owners have even offered writing seminars and creative residencies.
Apart from literature, Atlantis offers a set of peculiar souvenirs. For every bibliophile, one can find postcards and hand-printed notebooks to art posters and presents with literary themes to take home. These thoughtful keepsakes capture the essence of both Atlantis Books and Santorini.
A visit to the Atlantis Books is a must if one plans on going for a tour to Santorini. This bookstore is easily reachable from Fira and rest parts of the island because of its location in Firostefani inside the Nomikos Cultural Center. It is open each day for guests to explore its treasure at their discretion.
Atlantis Books is that 'something more' when considering a bookshop. One which celebrates creativity, tales, & the value of relationships between people. Indeed, this little treasure on Santorini promises something to be cherished even long after departure: for voracious readers, tourists, or just someone wanting those peaceful moments of awe.
