A rich background
Situated in a beautifully restored stone building from the early 1900s, which was previously a tomato processing factory, is the beautiful example of Gaia Winery's conversion of industrial architecture. The winery was founded in 1994, and has since become one of the symbols of the island's winemaking revival.
It is a collaboration between enologist Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and Leon Karatsalos, an agronomist who brings together the virtues of the volcanic terroir and endemic varieties of Santorini. Their passion for excellence, places Gaia Wines in a leading position within Greek vineyards.
Exceptional wines with distinctive character
The winery’s crown jewel is Thalassitis, a white wine made from the Assyrtiko grape. Renowned for its intense minerality, bright acidity, and complex flavor profile, Thalassitis has earned international acclaim. Along with Thalassitis, the winery produces an oaky-fermented version of this wine, which gives it depth and complexity, and the sweet, luscious Vinsanto, a traditional dessert wine from Santorini. The Gaia winery also produces a distinctive vinegar from Assyrtiko grapes, highly regarded for its rich and aromatic character. Each wine reflects the innovative spirit of the winery while being true to the traditions of the island.
Winetasting experience in paradise
With its unparalleled wine-tasting program, open to visitors throughout the year from April through October, it invites guests to take a carefully selected taste through eight wines, four whites, and four reds, including selections from Gaia's second winery in Nemea (Peloponnese,Greece). Tastings are conducted under a shaded patio overlooking the turquoise Aegean Sea. The gentle sea breeze soothes and enhances the sensation at every sip.
