Domaine Sigalas was established in 1991 by Paris Sigalas, who has been involved with winemaking from an early age in his privately owned cellar canava. In 1998, a modern winery was established in a 30-hectare vineyard, where the focus shifted to cultivating Santorini’s indigenious grape varieties.
Among these are Assyrtiko, Aidani, Athiri, Gaidouria, Platana, and Mavrotragano, grapes that are uniquely suited to the island's arid climate and mineral-rich volcanic soil. The commitment of this winery to the improvement of these grape varieties has earned Domaine Sigalas numerous awards in international competitions, hence further making its place within the globe.
The vineyards of Domaine Sigalas are situated in the heart of Santorini’s volcanic soil, where the sun-drenched landscape creates the perfect environment for grape cultivation. The island’s unique terroir imparts distinct minerality and depth to the wines, resulting in complex, well-balanced flavors. The traditional way of growing grapes in a basket shape, known as kouloura, is still applied today because it is adapted to the island's windy conditions, protecting the grapes while enhancing their concentration and character.
Visitors to Domaine Sigalas are welcome to take a tour of the winery's state-of-the-art facilities and learn about the winemaking process from start to finish. From vine to bottle, every step is carefully executed to ensure the highest quality product. The winery's team takes pride in blending tradition with innovation, using both modern and age-old techniques to craft wines that honor the island's winemaking heritage.
Domaine Sigalas offers daily wine tastings and guided tours, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Santorini wine. During the tour, guests are taken through the vineyard and the winery, where they can learn about the history of winemaking on the island and gain insight into the meticulous process that goes into crafting each bottle.
At the end of the tour, guests are allowed to taste 10 different wines from the acclaimed collection of the estate. This in-depth tasting experience allows guests to truly appreciate the exceptional wines produced by Domaine Sigalas.
